#6. Student Loan Forgiveness Program
The Disabled Veteran Student Loan Forgiveness Program is instrumental in alleviating the federal student loan burden for veterans with a 100 percent disability. Officially recognized as the Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) discharge program, its success is noteworthy. An often-overlooked detail is that veterans holding a 100 percent VA disability rating are also eligible for federal Disabled Veteran Student Loan Forgiveness. #7. $5,000 Folds of Honor Educational Scholarships
This opportunity is an excellent possibility for dependents of disabled veterans! The Folds of Honor foundation, a non-profit organization, awards two great educational scholarship programs to veterans’ children. The Children’s Fund Scholarship, designed for children of veterans with a VA rating of 90% or 100%, supports K-12 students. The Higher Education Scholarship, available to those with a VA rating of 10% or higher, aids individuals in pursuing their initial bachelor’s degree or certification at a college or secondary institution. Both Folds of Honor scholarships are contingent on need which is determined by documentation provided by the awardee and have the potential to offer up to $5,000 per dependent per school year. #8. VA Aid and Attendance or Housebound Program
The VA Aid and Attendance, also known as the Housebound program, is a VA Pension Benefit that helps cover the costs of daily living for housebound veterans and/or those in nursing or care homes. #9. Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program (VR&E)
The Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E) program, sometimes referred to as “Voc Rehab,” was created to assist veterans with service-connected disabilities with obtaining employment or to help them achieve independence. #10. Special Monthly Compensation Benefits for 100 Percent Disabled Veterans
VA Special Monthly Compensation (SMC benefits) is tax-free compensation that can be paid to disabled veterans, their spouses, surviving spouses, and parents in addition to their disability pay. For disabled veterans, VA Special Monthly Compensation entitles them to a higher rate of compensation due to special circumstances they may have such as a need for aid and attendance by another person or that arise from a specific disability such as the loss or use of a creative organ, which is Erectile Dysfunction (ED) for men and Female Sexual Arousal Disorder for women.
